1. Can foreigners register marriage in Singapore?
Generally, one party must be a Singapore citizen, PR, or long-term pass holder. If both are foreigners without long-term passes, at least one must have previously resided in Singapore for over 31 days (not necessarily during the current visit).
2. What documents are required for marriage registration?
Step 1: During application, Singapore citizens/PR provide ID copies; foreigners provide passport copies. Two witnesses' IDs are also required. Previous divorce certificates/judgments must be provided if applicable. Step 2: For verification, both parties must present original documents in person. Step 3: During solemnization, both parties and two witnesses must attend in person with original documents.
3. How long does marriage registration take in Singapore?
Legally, there must be at least 21 days between application submission and solemnization. Ideally, certificates can be obtained within a month. ROM venues are often fully booked for three months; alternatively, you can schedule a government-recognized officiant at a hotel. We can assist with the entire process.
4. Are there any requirements for marriage witnesses?
There are no nationality or status restrictions for witnesses. Family members or friends can serve as witnesses. The names of both witnesses will appear on the marriage certificate.
5. Can the spouse live in Singapore long-term after marriage?
Marriage to a Singaporean does not automatically grant long-term residency. An LTVP application must be submitted to ICA, and approval is not guaranteed. Pre-marriage PMLA approval is recommended before registration. We provide application assistance; contact customer service for details.
6. Can we marry overseas and still register in Singapore?
You can marry overseas (e.g., China). The Singapore party must provide a single status declaration. We can assist with all required documents for foreign marriage registration. After registration, update the overseas marriage status with ROM; no need to re-register or obtain a Singapore certificate. Translation, notarization, and legal affirmation may be required, which we can assist with.
